SANGUEM: Given the bad condition of the road and as the road had turned slippery at many places on account of loose gravel, the villagers of Salgini on their own cleared the loose gravel that had accumulated on the road and also filled the potholes to make the road safe for the commuters.
It may be recalled that the road to Salgini, Tudov and Verlem was in news after the KTC depot manager had written to the panchayat of possibilities of withdrawing the lone KTC bus plying to these hilly areas citing bad condition of the road.
The letter triggered some anxious movements in the village and almost all political leaders tried to show their supremacy over each other either by meeting the chief minister, KTC Chairman or the Managing Director with a request not to withdraw the lone KTC bus plying to the village as it would cause serious problems for the villagers.
After the representations by the political leaders, the KTC decided not to withdraw the bus. But at the same time appealed the panchayat authorities to get the road repaired at the earliest.
Deputy Sarpanch Abhijit Desai informed that the panchayat at a recent meet has adopted a fresh resolution to repair the road proceeding to the hilly areas and the same has already been sent to the PWD.
Meanwhile, Desai complimented the villagers for clearing the road of the loose gravel and also for filling the potholes at some places.
