After loopholes were exposed, police changes Vasco cylinder blast case to an ‘LPG gas vapour cloud explosion’

Husband of the killed wife, a navy personnel, finally called for questioning “several times”

MARGAO/VASCO: As the survivors of the Chauhan family are left in the abyss of sorrows and grief trying to find answers to the death of their loved ones, the Vasco police and Sub Divisional Magistrate of Mormugao haven’t quite shown the urgency needed to gather evidence and more importantly not let crucial evidence and facts slip by.

What was termed a “blast” that occurred on November 18 at New Vaddem in Vasco, suspected due to domestic cylinder leakage, killed Shivani Rajawat and her mother Jaidevi, the incident was initially attended as a cylinder blast. However photographic evidence (published by

O Heraldo) suggest otherwise conspiracy angle to the entire matter.

Thus after O Heraldo’s comprehensive report with photographs and exclusive conversations with the family members of the two women killed, the police now are on the back foot and backtracking on their hurriedly concluded cylinder blast story.

But shockingly the inquiry and the very possible, homicidal angle have not been inserted into a case which the authorities looked like closing.

Vasco Police inspector Kapil Nayak has informed that earlier what was construed to be a cylinder blast was actually “a LPG gas vapour cloud explosion”, which led to the death of the mother and pregnant daughter. “After the allegations, we have called the husband several times to record statements,” he said.

The SDM of Mormugao Pratik Karmali when questioned regarding the complaint filed by the brother of deceased Shivani, said, “The investigation is now before the police. My role is limited to the death before seven years of marriage,” he said.

The Vasco Police too are waiting for the SDM to give his report, sending the case into a delay uncalled for.

The brother of Shivani, Shubham Singh Chauhan who is a police officer in Madhya Pradesh, said that it has been almost five days since the incident, but there is no convincing answer coming out of any of the responsible authorities.

When there are allegations of foul play, why is the entire system trying to dispose of my daughter’s body: father of Shivani Rajawat

Voicing his concerns over police investigations, Dilip Singh Chauhan, who lost his wife and pregnant daughter, said that he hasn’t received any call from the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for recording his statements.

“So far I haven’t received a call from the SDM for recording statements as a part of taking cognisance of my complaint alleging foul play in the matter. However, SDM has called insisting on taking the body for final rites. When there are allegations of foul play in the matter why is the entire system busy in trying to dispose of the body?” Chauhan asked.

“I think this is a conspiracy by my son-in-law Anurag Rajawat and his mother. I say this because my daughter had informed her mother, my wife, that her husband was troubling her and because of some relation with some other girl there were arguments,” he said.
