PANJIM: Days after O Heraldo published a report along with supporting picture highlighting how the patch work carried out along Caculo Mall to Tonca Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) road stretch was washed off and massive potholes have resurfaced, the Smart City contractor has begun the repair works along the said road, to make it motorable for the commuters.
It is pertinent to note that last Saturday, Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) appointed contractor who is executing the work of road infrastructure in St. Inez area, had carried out patch work using stone gravel of three different sizes. However, due to incessant rains the material used got washed off and the massive potholes have resurfaced, along the said stretch causing great inconvenience to the commuters.
Considering the safety of commuters a section of people including the area CCP Councillor area Joel Andrade and activist Cecille Rodrigues had demanded that the government should consider closing the road for vehicular traffic.
Taking cognisance of O Heraldo’s reportage, GSUDA held a meeting with the contractor’s representatives and directed them to take necessary steps in making the road motorable immediately.
“Presently soling of the road is being carried out and once the heavy rain subsides, the contractor will undertake the grouting of the said road stretch,” a senior GSUDA official said.
