MAPUSA: A section of the road caved in at Duler Mapusa on Tuesday when a container truck tyre sank into it, causing traffic disruption and inconvenience to commuters.
According to the truck driver, Suresh Prajapati, from Jharkhand, the incident occurred at 5.30 am when his parked truck’s back tyre unexpectedly sank into the road. He was searching for the location to deliver his cargo and had parked the vehicle, when the back tyre sank into the road in two minutes, he said. This led to significant traffic congestion in the area, prompting locals to voice their concerns and call for urgent action from the Mapusa Municipality to address the situation.
Morning walker Abdul Rahim Sheikh, a local from the area said, he saw the incident happen. He said, “ I had told the Mapusa Municipality to widen the road. Why was this road not widened?” he questioned. “The truck went in because it was parked on a water chamber. He said this is a government property and MMC should take action on parking of trucks here,” he said.
