MARGAO: After citizens of Margao and Arlem voiced their anger, the authorities concerned expedited, and haave almost completed the works related to the gas pipeline chamber at Arlem junction, for which they had dug a huge pit. The prompt response comes after locals expressed frustration over the incomplete state of the project, which posed safety risks and caused traffic congestion in the area.
On Thursday morning, machinery was seen at the site, engaged in completing the works of the chamber for the gas pipeline. Many workers, along with supervisors, witnessed the work, while traffic policemen were posted at the site over the last two days, after O Heraldo reported the issue. Although the work obstructed the flow of traffic, locals expressed relief that the project was finally being completed after 20 days of inactivity at the site.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Seby Fernandes, a resident of Fatorda, said that it was only after the citizens raised their voice against the incomplete work that the authority expedited it.
As a result of the unattended pit, major traffic congestion was experienced at the site, besides citizens facing a tough time. No safety measures were followed while carrying out the works in the past; however, for the last two days, the pace of work has picked up, he stated. Paresh Naik, another citizen, now demanded that the road be restored to its original status.
“This road that was dug for building the gas pipeline chamber was only recently hot mixed. Now, it is the duty of the authorities to restore it immediately after completing the works,” he demanded.
According to the citizens, Arlem junction, being a major traffic junction, was a mess during office hours, with the barricaded pit leading to long traffic jams. The non-functional traffic signals at the circle have only added to the vehicular chaos.
