The State government on Wednesday had set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into cases of illegal land grabbing in the state. The move came following a series of exposes by HERALD, based on whose reports three FIRs were filed.
The SIT is led by the superintendent of police, crime branch, Nidhin Valsan, and has six others, including the deputy collector of South Goa, Snehal Prabhu, deputy superintendent of police Braz Menezes and representatives from the departments of archaeology and the state registrar.
Speaking to media persons, Sawant said that there have been cases of land grabbing almost in every taluka, with the majority being in coastal areas of Pernem, Bardez, and Salcete. He said that various cases have come with the Police Department as well as the Department of the Registrar.
He said that there should be around 60-70 cases of land grabbing and that SIT will investigate each and every case.
