MARGAO: Over a fortnight after floods hit Cuncolim town, the affected residents are yet to receive relief and compensation from the district authorities.
When Herald contacted Salcete Mamlatdar Triveni Velip over the fate of the natural calamity relief to the residents of Sanvorcotto, Dandora and Milleamwaddo, she said her office had forwarded the claims for relief and compensation to the office of the District Collector for consideration.
Incidentally, District Collector N D Agrawal, when contacted, informed that the claims for monetary relief are under the consideration of his office. “The forms are being scrutinised and processed,” Agrawal said.
Sources in the know said the claims for monetary relief from the affected residents will be decided by a panel headed by the District Collector.
It is learnt that the Salcete Mamlatdar has also forwarded the assessment conducted by the PWD on the damage caused to over 15 compound walls by the floods at Sanvorcotto.
Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Devendra Dessai said the civic body would wait for the Chief Minister and GSIDC to make an announcement on the natural calamity relief to the victims before chalking out the next course of action. “The CM had promised to return back to Cuncolim after 15 days to ensure that all the residents hit by the floods are compensated adequately,” Desai reminded.
Over 60 houses, besides compound walls, in the Sanvorcotto area of Cuncolim, were hit by the floods on July 2. The residents have called upon the government to fully compensate them for the loss of household items, and damage to their houses and compound walls.
