Agasaim cop in GPay bribery case suspended, but will that be all?

Taking serious note of O Heraldo’s in-depth reportage, investigation officials directed to send case details to SP Vigilance for further inquiry

PANJIM:  After O Heraldo’s relentless reportage, the Goa Police has suspended a constable attached to the Agasaim Police Station for his alleged involvement in a case of harassment, extortion and for accepting bribes of Rs 5,000 through mobile payment service from a Calangute-based car owner.

The departmental investigation officials have been directed to send all the details of the case to the SP Vigilance for further inquiry.

Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa Nidhin Valsan informed, “The constable Santosh has been suspended pending inquiry. We have been directed to send all the details of the case to SP Vigilance for further inquiry.”

It may be recalled that O Heraldo had exposed the case of alleged harassment, extortion, and accepting bribes through GPay by the police attached to the Agasaim Police Station. Jeep owner and victim of extortion Nitesh Vengurlekar deposed before the investigating officer with the incriminating screenshot of a GooglePay receipt of an alleged bribe of Rs 5,000. Nitesh was allegedly instructed to transfer a bribe amount to an employee of a garage located opposite the police station by constable Santosh.

Sources informed that the investigation officials have sought the bank transaction details of the garage owner. The investigation into the matter is set to expose the trail of money that sources suggest may lead to more skeletons tumbling out of the Agasaim police cupboard.
