PANJIM: Padmashree awardee Remo Fernandes has been summoned by Agassaim Police to appear before the investigating officer in connection with a First Information Report registered against him for allegedly abusing a minor girl.
The summons, under Section 41 of the CrPC asks the singer to remain present at the police station at 10 am on Monday. “If you fail to remain present at the said date and time, I will be compelled to ensure your presence in accordance with the law,” Agassaim PI Jivba Dalvi stated in the letter.
The summons was delivered through Anjuna Police Station at his Siolim residence. It is learnt that Remo flew to Europe soon after the offence was registered.
Remo faces charges under Section 8 read with 2 (m) of the Goa Children’s Act for abusing the girl, who is undergoing treatment at GMC after being knocked down by a car driven by son Jonah. The case was registered taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Aires Rodrigues.
According to the complainant, Remo visited the hospital and abused the girl saying, “Why are you alive? You should have died.”
