PORVORIM, OCT 1
Bardez Deputy Collector Dashrath Redkar along with Assistant Director of Transport Ivo Rodrigues, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector S R Parwadker evicted the touts and agents undertaking RTO related work in the Kadamba Bus stand at Mapusa.
Acting on a complaint from the GOACAN, authorities directed the touts and agents to vacate the benches and remove the tables from the bus stand.
A number of people had complained of hardship in getting their work done at the Mapusa RTO.
Many stated that some of the staff are uncooperative and fail to provide information to the needy. This had led people to run from pillar to post to get their work done.
In a bid to avoid the tedious process to get their work done, people ended up utilising the services of touts and agents.
The spurt in business had led a number of touts and agents to converge outside the RTO office. Some had even occupied the benches meant for the passengers at the bus stand and had even placed tables to facilitate their work.
Such was the workload of the touts and agents that many claimed a parallel RTO was in operation outside the office of the RTO.
GOACAN complained to the deputy collector that these touts and agents were occupying benches to do their business, forcing passengers awaiting the buses to stand for long hours.
Redkar visited the Kadamba bus stand in the morning and along with RTO officials, inspected the premises.
The officials noticed that some touts and agents had placed tables in the open spaces outside the RTO office and were attending to customers.
The deputy collector directed the touts and agents to vacate the benches and remove the tables.
