Aggrieved Mangor Hill women protest near Varunapuri Gate

Demand that they be freed from the containment zone as the residents have been left with no money

VASCO: Aggrieved women from Mangor Hill on Wednesday protested near Varunapuri Gate demanding that they be freed from the containment zone as the residents have been left with no money. 

After receiving information about the protest, the Deputy Collector and the police rushed to the site and pacified the crowd.

A lady from the containment zone said they are suffering inside the containment zone as they are left with no money and the question of survival has cropped up now.

She said they do not have any issues if they are kept in a containment zone for some days, but the government should provide them with some monetary help to purchase essential items to survive. 

She said they want to be freed from the containment zone and added that they don’t mind the government quarantining people with health ailments, but those with no health issues should not be kept in a containment zone for a long time.

Another woman, who is a housewife, said her son was supposed to go to Bangalore for his education, her daughter lost her job and her husband is not keeping well. And with no money left, they fail to understand as to what are they supposed to do in the containment zone. 

“If we are removed from the containment zone then at least my son and daughter will be able to take up some job and earn something for our family”, she said.

Bhima, lady from Bada-Mangor area said she has small kids and it becomes difficult for them to manage the household in the containment zone. 

She said the limited grocery items, which the government is supplying to their houses, are not enough to fulfil their needs and demanded that they be freed from the containment zone.

According to available information, the Deputy Collector along with the police rushed to the site near the Varunapuri Gate and pacified the aggrieved women from the Mangor containment zone.
