Agnelo derides Lobo over road on Comunidade-owned land

PANJIM: Congress has demanded that Goa government should investigate BJP Calangute MLA’s action in Calangute village, alleging that the BJP and its legislators from the minority community are ‘bent on harassing minorities.’

The party has taken objection to a road that is being constructed in the Comunidade owned field by blocking a traditional path that leads to the Church and cemetery in Arpora.
The ex-Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes at a press briefing Thursday alleged that sitting MLA Michael Lobo’s action has upset the locals while also claiming that the road construction was essentially to have access to a property the latter has allegedly purchased in the vicinity.
“Lobo along with some people have begun abusing and threatening the Fabrica members because of which the Attorney of Nagoa Church had to resign. The BJP legislator also threatened a journalist working for a reputed daily,” he alleged. A number of complaints to the Comunidade and police have proved futile, Fernandes said.
Fernandes went on to add that the machinery which was used to demolish the alleged illegal dance bars in Calangute was being used for cutting trees or other activities, without any permission from authorities concerned.  “Lobo is acting like a contractor. The work that he claims to be doing for the development for Calangute, is in fact for his personal gain,” he alleged, demanding that police seize the equipment from Lobo’s possession.
He therefore demanded that government should investigate into the alleged land filling, land grabbing and threats allegedly involving Lobo himself.
