SANGUEM: Agnelo Da Costa was on Friday elected unopposed as chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council .
Da Costa was the lone candidate to file nomination form and Presiding Officer Anuja Phaldessai declared Da Costa elected unopposed. Except for Vice Chairperson Shaikh Imtiaz, who is on a pilgrimage, all other councillors attended the special meeting. Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and Chief Officer Pramod Dessai were also present for the meeting.
The elections to elect new chairperson followed after former chairperson Changuna Salgaonkar resigned last month.
Phaldessai assured support and co-operation to Agnelo. He urged the people for their co-operation in undertaking development works like construction of footpath and extension of the PWD work from Dando to Miracles High School had to be kept on hold due to objections by certain people.
“The project which is estimated to cost about Rs 1 crore will be undertaken soon, as all legal hassles have been now cleared,” said Phaldessai and claimed that construction of footpaths and also laying underground cables in the municipal areas will be taken up soon.
