Agnelo’s bail plea rejected, faces arrest

PANJIM: North Goa Sessions Court on Tuesday rejected Goa Passport Officer Agnelo Fernandes’ anticipatory bail plea.

PANJIM: North Goa Sessions Court on Tuesday rejected Goa Passport Officer Agnelo Fernandes’ anticipatory bail plea. Fernandes is facing charges of corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). CBI Goa Superintendent Ashok Kumar said Fernandes will be arrested soon.
CBI is investigating allegations of issue of passport by Fernandes to people with a criminal background and against whom cases were pending in court.  CBI has not revealed information stating the case is under investigation.
 but sources said that based on the allegation, verification of facts is in progress for which CBI wants Fernandes in custody.
CBI registered a case against Fernandes on September 9 after raiding his office at Patto, Panjim and his residence in Nuvem. CBI had seized documents and Indian and foreign currency, besides 100 bottles of foreign liquor in the raids.
