CANACONA: The Agonda beach in Canacona has been ranked number one in the Asia list of the annual travellers’ choice awards for beaches.
Agonda beach is famous for its miles wide white sands, clear blue waters, cozy shacks, gorgeous beauty, peaceful and tranquil surroundings.
The number one beach award is based on reviews to bookings on their travel site TripAdvisor.
The beach has also featured at number 18 on the top 25 beaches in the world and also topped the list of 25 best beaches in the country.
Besides Agonda a total of four Indian beaches have featured in the Asia list of “Travellers’ Choice awards for beaches” which include Radhanagar Beach in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at number 4, Benaulim, Mandrem and Palolem beaches in Goa at numbers 15, 18 and 20, respectively.
While declaring the results at an event in Mumbai for the review compiled during 12 months of last year TripAdvisor India country manager Nikhil Ganju said, “it is particularly exciting to see Indian beaches rising in prominence globally which is clearly evident with Agonda beach taking the top spot in Asia and making it to the global list as well.”
This, he said, would stimulate travellers to plan their getaways to balmy temperatures whether in India or outside.
Travellers Choice Award-winning beaches were determined on the quantity and quality of traveller reviews and ratings on the TripAdvisor website gathered over a 12-month period.
The decorated and widely awarded beach of Agonda was ranked at number four position in the Asia top 10 list in 2016 and first in 2017 mostly for being wide, quiet, picturesque and a great spot for sunbathing and relaxing with relatively few tourists around, the survey said.
