Agonda-Khola panchayat finally erects traffic signs for road users

AGONDA: The Agonda-Khola panchayat has finally erected traffic signs signs in the panchayat area inorder to give instructions or provide information to road users.

Traffic signs are basically installed to provide a wealth of information from speed limits to directions on where to go or where to turn as it guarantees the safety of road users by reducing danger of drivers colliding with other cars, vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists.

After another rent-a-car vehicle hit a local at Pann, Agonda, the demand for the same intensified again.

“The panchayat has erected the warning signs and speed bumps will be installed next month,” said sarpanch Preetel Fernandes.

It may be recalled that Sanju Naik, a local had lost his life after being hit by a car and another local would have faced the same fate in a mishap that took place on August 17. The gram sabha had unanimously resolved to install speed bumps on the main road that goes through the panchayat.

All the roads in Agonda panchayat area are narrow and sharp curves only add more to the danger. Many times visitors who are not familiar with the roads drive their vehicles irresponsibly. Many visitors were also caught driving their rented vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

“The decision to install speed bumps later was taken after considering the hot-mixing work which is scheduled for the next month. However, the signages have been put up as per the demands of the villages,” said sarpanch.
