Agonda wants illegal tourism establishments stopped

CANACONA: The Agonda Gram Sabha on Sunday strongly objected to the functioning of several tourism establishments without any permit in the village.

Asking the local body to initiate action against the culprits and stop their operations immediately, members at Agonda gram sabha termed the body as “defunct” and requested the panchayat to wake from its slumber to serve the locals.
The villagers also raised the issue of a private venture conducting weekly parties playing loud music and operating without proper licences in the village. Panchayat Secretary Damodar Kankonkar informed that the panchayat received Rs 2000 as licence fee last season, but there is no payment of any charges by the private venture.
Members sought to know if the private venture was functioning due to the blessings of top people. They asked the panchayat to initiate action against it.
Governing sitting on the files to construct new bridges at the existing Dhavaljhazan and Dumane bridges also came in for strong criticism.
The panchayat secretary informed that eight notices were issued to the parties displaying signboards, as per decision in the last gram sabha, but no one responded positively and paid the dues.
Meanwhile, while two panchas including former deputy sarpanch Pramod Phaldessai were seen seated among the members, while only Deputy Sarpanch Fany Miranda and a lone panch Basal Naik Gaunkar along with Secretary Kankonkar and BDO Biva Velip were on the dais and Sarpanch Navneeta Naik Gaunkar who is on leave, panch Tippu Pagi and ex-sarpanch Dajula Pagi did not attend.
