MAYEM, MARCH 28
Agony continued for a Dalit family from Harijanwada-Bordem, Bicholim, after their hut was gutted in a fire in the wee hours of Sunday.
It may be recalled that the Dalit Parwar family had to erect the hut, after their house was washed away on September 5, 2009, due to heavy downpour.
Since Janaki Ramchandra Parwar is blind and her two sons Sunil and Anil unemployed, there was no other means of sustenance and hence no hope of reconstructing the house. Janaki made several trips to the government department offices for getting financial assistance, but in vain.
Luckily at about 3 am on Sunday, a major tragedy was averted, as Sunil and Anil, who were sleeping in the neighbouring Rashtroli Temple, noticed the hut on fire and saved the life of their blind mother, who was sleeping alone inside the house.
Janaki Ramchandra Parwar was residing in the hut along with her two sons Sunil and Anil. While Janaki used to sleep alone in the house, her two sons used to sleep in the temple.
Speaking to Herald, the family members said all the documents of the house along with ration quota of Antodaya Yojna, which Janaki had brought a couple of days ago, were gutted in the fire.
Rotary International President Prithviraj Sardesai and his team on Sunday visited the affected family and provided food, clothes and other necessary items.
Meanwhile, Janaki and her two sons have called upon Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to provide financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Fund.
Social institutions and individuals have urged help for the Parwar family. Interested persons and clubs desiring to help the affected family are requested to contact Vishant Vaze on 9822582667.
