PANJIM: After initial reluctance, the private bus owners, affiliated to All Goa Private Bus Owners Association has decided to accept the government declared fare hike of Rs 8 for the first four kilometers.
The association claimed that the decision has been taken following a meeting with director Transport Arun Dessai, who agreed to extend the proposed fare hike to Kadamba Transport Corporation’s shuttle services.
AGPBOA, has however, welcomed government proposal to implement monthly concession pass scheme to private buses like the KTC scheme.
Speaking to media persons, AGPBOA general secretary Sudip Tamhankar said that association has decided to go ahead with fare hike and that the directions have been issued to bus operators registered with them, to prepare a fare table and submit the same to RTO for approval.
“Director Transport has assured us that the hiked rates would also be made applicable to shuttle services, which were not covered as per the notification,” Tamhankar said.
The association had initially refused to accept the fare hike stating that Rs 8 will be accepted only for the first three kilometers followed by 10 paise hike for subsequent kms. The association had demanded Rs 10 for the first four kilometers.
