MARGAO: A day after he inspected the government quarters at Pajifond, South Goa district Collector, N D Agrawal was on the firing line of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Friday, even as the Independent MLA warned government officials not to play politics over development.
A visibly agitated Sardesai said that Agrawal should first set his house (Collectorate) in order with employees protesting over his functioning, instead of repairing houses of other departments. “I fail to understand the logic behind Agrawal’s visit to the Junta quarters when the PWD has not only floated three tenders worth Rs 45 lakh, but has also issued work order to take up the structural work of the buildings,” Sardesai told the media.
Reminding the district Collector and other government officials that Fatorda was not orphaned and has a pro-active legislator, who well understands the priorities vis-à-vis development, the Fatorda MLA said the Collector should be aware of the protocol and his administrative obligation and priorities and not act like a political worker out to hog undue credit for things that he has done nothing about. “More pressing issues such as doing away with scrap yards from city limits, proliferation of rabid dogs threatening lives of citizens, stray cattle menace, erection of speed breakers at accident endemic zones which need to be addressed by the local administration headed by the Collector rather than such plausible political visits”, the MLA added.
