Agri Dept to assess recent crop damage: Dy CM

Cuncolim: Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Chandrakant alias Babu Kavalekar has assured that the Zonal Agriculture Officers (ZAOs) will be ‘proactively assessing the crop damage due to the recent rains’. 
Kavalekar was speaking at the valedictory function of the second Fugdi and Arti festival organised by Bhumipurush Sports Club at Padi. 
“Directions have been issued to ZAOs to visit farmers affected by the recent rains and prepare an estimate of the crop damage,” said Babu. 
He further emphasised that the current government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, is actively looking at helping the people of Goa and that this assessment is in line with the government’s stated objectives.  
“Goan farmers are involved in traditional farming and most of them do organic farming. To create Goa’s impression on the agricultural map of India, a push for organic farming is required and the Chief Minister is working towards the same, he added. 
At the function, the Dy CM was felicitated at the hands of local Budhvant of the community, Arjun Narayan Velip. Local Zilla Parishad (ZP) Minaxi Gaonkar and Corde Panch Avinash Velip were present amongst the dignitaries at the function. President of the club Sandeep Velip, Secretary Shaba Velip and Treasurer Upesh Velip toiled hard to put this program together.
