MARGAO: A crucial gathering for Salcete Taluka is set to take place on Monday, October 30, involving farmers, farmer’s groups, farmer’s societies, elected representatives, and the general public. The purpose of this meeting is to gather valuable feedback and suggestions for the formulation of Goa’s Agriculture Policy of the State Agriculture Department.
The event is scheduled to be held in Room No. 407, Conference Hall, 4th Floor, South Goa Collectorate Building. It was initially planned for Friday, October 27, at the KVK Hall in Margao but has been rescheduled to Monday.
Numerous groups and village gram sabhas have already conducted meetings where they have put forward their suggestions and concerns regarding the draft agriculture policy.
The following are some of the suggestions they have made: immediate action from the government on field access issues; timely availability of tractors and harvesters to prevent yield loss; standardized labour pricing; providing direct subsidies to avoid undue delays; the creation of a Farmers’ Club for Utorda; addressing cattle grazing concerns; reservations for farmers’ children in educational institutions; incorporating agriculture as a subject at the school level; and providing subsidies not only on water pumps but also on electricity for farming equipment.
