Agri Dept’s officers danced through Panjim, Margao streets to urge farmers to grow millets

PANJIM: The Agriculture Officers of Directorate of Agriculture danced through the streets of Panjim and Margao during Carnival days with their ‘Millet Float’ to convey the message ‘Grow Millets, Eat Millets, Stay Healthy’. 

The millet promoting tableau urged the farmers to grow millets like Ragi (Nachani) and Proso Millet (Vari) and cash on its nutritive value added products such as amil, tizen, ladoos, bhakri etc. The message was effectively conveyed through beautifully decorated theme-based floats, mind blogging music and meaningful lyrics, beautifully choreographed, danced and catchy taglines on placards carried by a troupe of 45 Agriculture Officers.

Director Agriculture Nevil Alphonso said that it is for the first time in the history of Carnival celebration that 45 energetic officers of Agriculture Department participated in the float to promote millets in Goa. 

The float was presented by State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI – GOA), Directorate of Agriculture, Ela, Old Goa.

 “The out of box idea for reaching out to farmers and the general public through Carnival tableau was widely appreciated by the spectators,” the Director said.
