MARGAO: Upon the request of Cavelossim Village Panchayat, officials of the Agricultural Department held an inspection of fields in the village to look into the complaints of the farmers who had listed various problems they face that have prevented them cultivating their crops.

“The Cavelossim Panchayat along with the Agriculture Department had a meeting with the local farmers who are struggling to do farming activities. I brought to the notice of the officials that saline water has entered their fields and due to this issue, 95 per cent of the farmers are unable to cultivate their crops,” said Sarpanch Dixon Vaz.

The sarpanch also pointed out that all the bundhs have to be repaired and that fencing has to be done too. He also said there is a need to check on the availability of functioning tractors, pesticides etc.

While the Agriculture Department officials took samples of the soil for testing, they assured the farmers that they would convey their demands to their higher-ups and also revert regarding the status of the soil testing. A decision was also taken to form a farmers’ club to help address their grievances together.  All the panch members were present and the panchayat body offered their cooperation to the farmers as well.
