PONDA: The All Goa Truck Owners Association has expressed anger at the government and Vedanta for allegedly ignoring its demands. It has appealed to truck owners to remain firm on their decision to abstain from transporting fresh ore until Vedanta meets their demands, including a hike in the ore transportation rate.
AGTOA has been protesting for a hike in the transportation rate for the last month after Vedanta did not agree to the rate demanded by the truckers.
At a meeting in Usgao-Vadakade on Wednesday, AGTOA President Nilkant Gawas claimed that Vedanta would not suffer a loss if it hiked the rate from Rs 8 to Rs 11.27.
, as demanded by AGTOA. He also questioned where Vedanta was spending the money that was being saved after the government reduced the export duty.
He added, “There is an attempt to start mining at the Sonshi mines, but we will not allow Vedanta to transport the ore without fulfilling the demand to hike the transportation rate.
