PANJIM: A gang fight broke out between two groups of prisoners at Aguada Jail Monday evening when they were brought out from their cells.
Sources said that the two gangs, comprising at least 10 hardcore criminals on each side suddenly attacked each other resulting in a sudden brawl. However, the cause of the fight is still being established by the Prisons Department.
Rajendra alias Rajan Singh, who is one of the convicts in the Dr Shrikant Vernekar murder case, and others were involved in the fight.
The injured inmates were given first aid however no police complaint has been filed.
This is not the first time a fight has occurred inside the jail. Even before Nigerian undertrials, Israeli David alias Dudu Driham~involved in police-drug nexus case and now released on bail~ and others were involved in brawls. There have also many attempts by prisoners to escape.
In the present case, it is being probed whether the fight was staged either to escape or harm each other with the complicity of jail guards or even whether an internal ‘supari’ was given against some inmates.
