PANJIM: Citizens across the State will be able to register complaints against cruelty to animals through a Mobile App, as the Goa Government proposes to introduce the facility by August 2023.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS) is also working on a proposal to develop a data base of State based Animal Welfare Organization, Activists, Animal Care givers, Animal shelters and Infirmaries.
“The full process of these approvals- android based app and data base is expected to be completed by August 2023,” AHVS said in their ‘Vision Document’ which has laid its focus on sustainable animal cruelty reporting system in the State.
Sources in the AHVS informed that though the Goa State Animal Welfare Board (GSAWB) was constituted way back in 2018, the same remained mostly dormant as the District Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCAs), which are the arms of the GSAWB, had not been constituted.
Presently the DSPCAs North and South under District Collectors have been notified and registered and is expected to become operational by this month end.
Sources informed that DSPCAs would require their own land and office building for starters. It is proposed to allot land to these DSPCAs, for which the respective District Collectors would be responsible. The project is expected to be completed and commissioned by August 2025.
