PANJIM: A day after thousands of teachers and parents came onto the streets paralyzing normal life demanding that the Medium of Instruction (MoI) policy be made a law, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Goa desk in-charge Digvijay Singh has demanded grants to English medium primary schools in line with Marathi and Konkani schools.
“When govt can give grants to Marathi and Konkani medium primary schools then why not to English medium schools? It is the choice of parents to send their children to which school and it is govt’s right to support all schools,” Singh told media persons on Saturday.
Singh said that Congress supports the Education Act of giving grants to all English medium primary schools. “Congress during its regime had given grants to English school…BJP has also given and I feel it should continue,” he said. “It is the parent who decides in which language their children will study at the elementary level,” Singh added.
The senior national leader slammed Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for his statement blaming Congress party and church body for destabilizing the government. “It is wrong on part of the chief minister to target the Congress or the church. The demand of the parents is quite justifiable to have an act to give grant in aid to all English schools along with Marathi and Konkani medium primary schools,” he stated.
