PANJIM: All India Congress Committee (AICC) leader Dinesh Rao on Sunday accused the BJP of attempting to rewrite history to ‘demolish the great ideas’ of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
“… but people of India very well knows his contribution for Indian freedom and building modern India and Pt Nehru will remain in hearts of citizens for years to come,” Rao said while speaking after Goa Pradesh Congress Committee paid tribute to the first prime minister of India on his birth anniversary at Congress House in the capital city in the presence of Senior Observer P Chidambaram, GPCC president Girish Chodankar and other Congress functionaries.
The AICC incharge reminded the people that Nehru had first thought of maintaining a separate identity of Goa and it was party’s veteran and then PM Indira Gandhi who fulfilled the aspirations of the Goans by holding the historic Opinion Poll.
Chodankar said Nehru’s assurance in the Parliament will be maintained ‘as it is our duty to protect the identity of Goa.’
