PANJIM, JUNE 24
The AIFF’s Appeal Committee levied a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Dempo Sports Club for not releasing two of their players for the National camp held in Goa.
Similarly, the earlier decision taken by its Disciplinary Committee of imposing a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Sporting Clube de Goa following the manhandling of the referee by one of their supporters at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda has also been upheld by the Appeals Committee.
Dempo’s case was that their players, Mahesh Gawli and Sameer Naik, were declared unfit by the team’s doctor and as such could not be released for the camp, whereas the AIFF had maintained that it would be the federation’s doctor who would do the medical evaluation of the players in question and rule over their fitness. However, the players were declared fit by the team’s doctor later on and they were allowed to join the National camp by the India coach a few days before the camp could come to a close.
The matter was referred to the AIFF’s Disciplinary Committee which levied a fine on the club. Aggrieved, the club filed an appeal, wherein it was decided that the fine of Rs 2 lakh had to be paid by the club. That apart, the Appeals Committee imposed the cost of Rs 50,000 over and above the fine on the club. Both the fine and the cost should be paid by the club in 15 days from receipt of the letter, stated AIFF.
In Sporting Clube de Goa’s case, the Appeals Committee upheld the decisions taken earlier by the Disciplinary Committee after perusing the documents. The 12-month suspension imposed on Sporting fan who manhandled the referee was upheld and the club fined Rs 2 lakh. It also imposed the cost of Rs 20,000 over and above the fine.
Both the fine and the cost should be paid by the Club in 15 days from receipt of the letter, the AIFF said.
The suspension for a period of 12 months on Haryana coach Keshav Dutt and manager Hans Raj would remain for a period of 12 months, the AIFF stated adding that the suspension will be confined to activities of Haryana Football Association and not on all- India basis as decided earlier.
The suspension of players – Yogesh, Navdeep, Jaipal, Bachhan, Dheeraj and Deepak Narval from all football activities has been reduced to six months by the Appeals Committee.
The fine of Rs 20,000 imposed on Haryana Football Association was upheld by the Appeals Committee and the association has been given strong warning that if any such incident is repeated by anyone of its teams or by Haryana Football Association in future, the concerned team will be debarred from playing for a period of one year.
