BELGAUM: Hectic activities were witnessed in Belgaum on Thursday as All India Motor Trade Congress (AIMTC) executive committee members along with transporters of Belgaum and Khanapur mobilised support to intensify their agitation against the entry tax by the Goa government.
Apart from meeting the police and other authorities, the transporters also persuaded wholesale vegetable and other suppliers not to load vehicles for Goa.
AIMTC Executive Committee member Ramappa Malenadu accompanied by others had a meeting with Belgaum Rajya Sabha MP and BJP national executive member Dr Prabhakar Kore at his office in Belgaum to discuss the gravity and impact of entry tax by Goa.
“Though we have tried to contact the Goa’s Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in this regard, he seems to be reluctant. However, I am of the opinion that entry tax is not only illegal, but also unethical as one state in the Indian union cannot levy tax on the people of other States. We will not allow anyone doing injustice to the people of Karnataka in any way. The matter will be taken up with the higher authorities if required,” said Dr Kore, while expressing strong resent to the Goa’s entry tax.
Suggesting a legal remedy in the matter if needed, Dr Kore added: “It is high time that the Parrikar government withdraws entry tax as it is doing no good to the people of Goa and other States.”
The transporters also persuaded wholesale vegetable and other suppliers not to load vehicles for Goa.
