Air traffic at Goa Airport picking up

PANJIM: Air traffic at Goa Airport Dabolim is slowly picking up after seeing it drop by 90% during the second wave and various restrictions imposed in parts of the country including Goa. The prevailing inter-State movement rules for visitors to Goa are being enforced on all flights.

It may be recalled that the airport had seen high traffic between January and March, which fell drastically in the subsequent months.

Officials at the Goa Airport that is managed by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) have now said that the air traffic is slowly and steadily inching higher and we are set for the air traffic to increase in the future to reach its true potential.

They added that earlier this week, “a total of 30 domestic flights landed at the international airport with a total pax footfall at 6118”.

Airport officials also emphasised on how safety guidelines are being followed at the Goa airport. They added that all the facilities at the airport including the zero-touch system are hygienic, clean and safe. They further shared images on Twitter of social distancing being maintained by responsible passengers at the baggage claim area.  “Collective responsibility is the need of the hour to sail through this pandemic,” they added.

They further pointed out that they are still coordinating repatriation flights with the Indian diaspora such as those Goans in Sharjah and other places through the AAI air bubble services.

The officials also elaborated on how they are continuing to handle the efficient supply of COVID vaccines to the State of Goa via Air India flights.
