PANJIM: Advocate Aires Rodrigues has appealed to the family of social activist late Bismarque Dias not to stall his final rites. Dias died in November 2015 at St Estevam island. Rodrigues also appealed to the family members not to fall prey to misleading and misguiding of facts by some vested interests.
In an open letter to the family, Rodrigues, pointed out that since November 7, 2015, Dias’ body has been preserved in the morgue of Goa Medical College at Bambolim and that it would be most unfortunate if Dias has to spend a third Christmas within the precincts of the morgue.
“The investigation must go on into the cause of his death but with all the forensic tests done and the viscera report having been received, his mortal remains are not required for any further examination,” Rodrigues stated.
Rodrigues recalled that since doubts were raised over the first post-mortem report the authorities had ordered another post-mortem by a team of three doctors whose report was no different from the first one.
He has drawn the attention of the family that it has to be a priority that Dias, who so selflessly, dedicatedly and tirelessly toiled for Goa, is given a fitting hero’s farewell and laid to rest with all due respect to the departed soul.
Rodrigues pointed out that the Supreme Court has held that even in death a person has dignity and when one is dead, he deserves to be treated with human dignity it being a basic human right.
