Aires moves HC over failure of CCP to form ward panels

PANJIM: Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues has moved the High Court of Bombay at Goa over the failure of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) to constitute the ward committees as required by law.

In his petition, Rodrigues has sought directions for immediate formation of ward committees for the city in accordance with Section 41 of the CCP Act.

Rodrigues had on January 31, served a legal notice to the Chief Secretary, Secretary Urban Development, Director of Municipal Administration and CCP Commissioner, granting 15 days to constitute the ward committees.

In his notice, Rodrigues stated that for the last 18 years in rank violation of law this very vital provision in the CCP Act has not been complied with to the detriment of Panjim and its residents.

He had also stated that the ward committees were planned to help improve communication between the CCP and the community besides playing an important role in being a link between the public needs and the planning processes.
