PANJIM: The State cabinet’s decision to create the post of additional advocate general has hit a snag with lawyer activist Aires Rodrigues filing a complaint with Chief Secretary R K Srivastav.
“The cabinet on June 17 illegally recommended that Dattaprasad Lawande be appointed as Additional AG. The appointment, if made, would be totally illegal as it would be to a non-existent post. This is an attempt to accommodate Lawande who is a close relative of the recently promoted Additional Solicitor General of India Atmaram Nadkarni,” Rodrigues said.
He further stated that Lawande is already Assistant Solicitor General of India besides government advocate in the High Court.
He argued that the post should be reviewed first as it had lapsed after it remained vacant for a decade and half, following resignation of Vilas Thali in 2002.
