PANJIM: Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues has filed a petition before the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking directions to the Goa Government to comply with the mandate of Article 174 of the Constitution of India by either summoning a session of the Legislative Assembly or dissolving it. The Division Bench comprising Justices F M Reis and Nutan Sardessai will hear the petition on Tuesday.
In the petition, Rodrigues stated there was no proposal by the government to convene a session of the Legislative Assembly as required under the Constitution of India though it was duty bound to ensure that the constitutional mandate is followed.
He also pointed out that in terms of Article 174 of the Constitution it was the duty of the Governor to summon the House on or before March 3 as the last sitting was held in August 2016.
