VASCO, OCT 5
In a shocking incident, a passenger coach of Indigo Airlines rammed against a stationary Jet Airways plane at Dabolim airport on Tuesday afternoon.
The mishap as well as the recent bird strikes have severely dented the safety record of the Dabolim airport, especially with the charter tourism season due to start on Wednesday.
The incident took place shortly after the Bangalore-Goa Jet Airways flight 9W24 arrived from Bangalore at about 1.58 pm.
“After passengers alighted from the flight, it was stationed at the apron for passengers to board the flight for Bangalore when an empty coach of Indigo Airlines rammed against the left wing of the aircraft,” Airport Director D Paul Manickam said.
“Luckily, no casualties were reported, as the incident took place after passengers alighted from the flight and the boarding process was due to commence,” informed Manickam.
He further informed that the flight was grounded after the coach damaged its left wing.
However, the incident did not disrupt other flights at Dabolim airport as the Jet Airways plane was stationed on the apron.
“After inspection by local aviation engineers, the coach was moved and the aircraft was taken to the parking bay,” added Manickam.
“A safety officer from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will arrive in the State on Wednesday to assess the safety of the aircraft,” said Manickam.
The coach driver Krishna Lamani has been arrested and he was later sent for an alcoholic test at Asilo hospital, Mapusa said Vasco police.
