Airport director calls for steps to curb garbage dump

DABOLIM: Following Tuesday’s bird hit on the Air India flight, Dabolim Airport Director K Srinivasa Rao has requested the South Goa collector to convene a meeting to take steps to curb garbage dumping around the airport.

When brought to his notice about a garbage dump inside the airport on the western side, which could easily attract birds and endanger the planes taking off or landing at Dabolim airport, Rao stated he would visit the site to take stock of the garbage dump.
“After an inspection, I will request those involved in dumping the garbage to stop dumping the garbage to avoid future bird hits on aircraft.
Rao also informed that the bird hit incident on Tuesday was brought to the notice of the South Goa Collector.
“We have urged him to convene a meeting with all stakeholders involved in dumping garbage outside the airport, so that they may be directed not to dump garbage within the stipulated area of the airport,” said Rao.
