PANJIM: The Goa State Committee of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Tuesday announced that it would hold a jail bharo agitation on May 30 to protest against anti labour policies of the State BJP-led government.
Speaking to media persons AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonseca said that May 30 being Goa Statehood day, it has been selected to register the protests to highlight anti-labour policies of Manohar Parrikar government.

“The contract workers working in various factories and industries are made to work in most oppressed and exploitative service conditions. The managements have been adopting hire and fire methods against the contract workmen and their services have been terminated summarily,” Fonseca said.
“Government has no policy in place to protect and safeguard the scarce jobs and service conditions of these contract workers,” he added.
The Union leader accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of supporting the oppressive management of Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited which has retrenched 600 workers. He said that Zuari has bought in 150 migrant labourers from neighbouring states to work at the plant.
Parrikar has singularly failed to resolve the industrial unrest at ZACL, he said adding that “Parrikar has deployed police force to support ZACL management’. The jail bharo would be held at Kranti Circle.
