PANJIM: Just as the Met department had forecast high temperatures Monday, Goa received its first heavy pre-monsoon showers Tuesday evening, taking commuters by surprise. Government contractors engaged in pre-monsoon works were stranded and the civic bodies were likely to be the butt of ridicule for beginning the pre-monsoon cleaning work, late.
Panjim town received rain for most part of the evening with the heaviest showers reserved after sundown before tapering out by 10 at night.
Gutters overflowed on to the streets and roads were water logged with the heavy showers. Power cuts were also witnessed in parts of the city as light thunder and lightening punctuated the rains.
The Meteorological department meanwhile has forecast more showers over the next couple of days in few parts of Goa accompanied by thunder and lightning.
