PANJIM: IAS officer Ajit Roy took charge as the new Commissioner of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday. Outgoing Commissioner Deepak Desai handed over the charge to his successor in the morning.
Speaking to the media, Roy said he will meet the corporators, including the Mayor, to understand the functioning of the corporation.
“This is my fist posting in Goa. I am yet to understand the corporation. I am also yet to get the complete picture. I will have separate meetings with the councillors and Mayor in the coming days,” he told reporters after taking the charge.
Asked about the problem of garbage menace in the city, he stated that priorities in any city have to come from citizens while garbage management for any city is a big challenge. “We are here to serve the people. Garbage management for any city is a very big challenge these days. To improve quality of life we have to ensure that waste management is done properly,” he said.
