PONDA: Goa Road Safety Forum (GRSF), an NGO working to minimise road accidents, has said that it is alarmed at the increasing number of accidents in the Satate, as such has decided to redouble its efforts to create road safety awareness all over Goa.
GRSF lays stress on educating the riders to imbibe traffic culture and its President Deelip Naik said ‘Catch them Young’ is the policy of his organisation. Naik was addressing a meeting at Lokvan Premises near KTC Bus stand, Ponda on Sunday.
Instead of providing bikes to children at a young age, Naik said, parents and schools should stress on educating the children on traffic rules in class rooms at an early age. But Naik regretted that the children follow the advice of the parents only till the age of 12.
Therefore, he said, GRSF has decided to educate children on traffic rules all over Goa to minimise the accidents.
He said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has also encouraged him to work on road safety in collaboration with transport and other government department officials.
At the meeting, the members suggested many measures to control accidents, including fatal ones, and stressed on controlling on over speeding, installing road dividers, proper sinages and boards, proper engineering of roads, and on strict enforcement of traffic rules by Authorities.
