PANJIM: The Executive Committee of the Institute of Charity of Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary, Aldona has flatly denied allegations made by inmate Stella Doulton against the home, arguing that she had lived in the Institute from October 15, 2006 and had enjoyed all the facilities such as refrigerator, television, induction & microwave cooker, in her private room free of charge.
The Institution has 37 residents, of which seven are completely looked after by the Institute free of charge.
The executive committee stated the residents are asked to leave because of indiscipline, abusive behaviour, imbibing alcohol on the premises, providing false and misleading information at the time of admission, as well as consistently flouting the rules and regulations of the Institute.
On the hygiene and quality of the food one wonders, they argued that the food is nutritious and as per dietician’s suggestion and alleged that Doulton had refused entry to the nuns to clean her private room.
According to the Committee, at its monthly meeting all issues regarding the residents are resolved and the Honorary Executive Committee members take daily rounds and interact with the residents.
The committee alleged that the complainant had been issued a last and final warning by the previous committee, regarding her alcohol consumption and verbal abuse of the nuns which she had ignored.
The committee has said that the Institute refectory is fully re-done; steel cupboards provided to residents; free dentures and dental treatment provided to those in need; physiotherapy classes held daily and twice monthly by Helpage India; brand new LED television and washing machines installed, daily newspapers provided and pests and bug control carried by PCI to provide comfort to the inmates.
There is also an understanding with Remanso, Mapusa, for treatment of our residents and availability of discounted rates at Vision Care Hospital, committee members said.
