Aldona reels under frequent power cuts amid scorching summer heat

PANJIM: With Aldona constituency witnessing frequent power fluctuations, the residents of Aldona their local MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira and panchayat members on Friday met Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and apprised him of the grievances and concerns, and sought rectification of the problems on priority.

The residents complained that power cuts have been occurring despite taking up pre-monsoon maintenance works. There were regular outages nearly five times a day for prolonged hours. On Thursday there was a power failure and till Friday afternoon supply was not restored.

Adv Ferreira said, “People cannot endure this. They can’t use their refrigerators and can’t work either. We have apprised the Power Minister of these problems.”

Adv Ferreira also urged the electricity department to provide an additional vehicle with staff and to post more staff at the Gavar sub-station to address power-related problems in Aldona constituency. He further requested the Minister to restore the dug roads.

According to Adv Ferreira, they also spoke about the problems in Bastora and the Guirim feeder failing repeatedly. They said that due to shortage of staff, often staff from the Nagoa sub-station had to come to Aldona areas, which takes them nearly 25 minutes. When the staff are stationed at Gavar, they will come faster,” he pointed out.

The MLA said that the Minister has assured them that he will provide them with another vehicle with more staff.
