PANJIM: Residents of Aldona confronted the panchayat for allegedly bypassing the Gram Sabha with respect to expenditure and tendering of works.
At a Gram Sabha on Sunday, a resident, Oldrin Pereira, sought to know from Acting Sarpanch Charudutta Panjikar how the panchayat had spent huge amount for various works like bush cutting without approval of the Gram Sabha and also without approval of the audit and budget.
“Why did the panchayat not present before the gram sabha the income and expenditure details under the Goa Panchayat Raj Act,” asked Pereira.
Pereira also alleged that many people with bogus ration cards had also applied for Aadhaar cards.
Another Gram Sabha member also raised the issue of funds utilized for various works when the previous and present budget have not been audited and sanctioned by the Gram Sabha.
Gram Sabha members brought to the notice of the acting sarpanch about various illegalities and discrepancies.
Felix D’Cruz put forth a proposal that the village should honour two former Olympians by naming two roads after them.
“Walter D’Souza from Quitla-Aldona had participated in hockey and won the gold medal in 1948, and a garden in Dobitala-Mumbai has been named after him. Another Olympian, Mary D’Souza Sequeira from Quitla, had bagged this year’s prestigious Dhyan Chand for lifetime contribution in sports,” said D’Cruz.
“The two roads at Quitula junction can be named after them, as they have brought a lot of honour to our village,” said D’Cruz. The Gram Sabha was chaired by Charudatta in the presence of panchas.
