MARGAO: The Former Nuvem MLA Aleixo Sequira and a veteran Congressman, on Wednesday announced his retirement from politics. Aleixo has claimed that the Roman Catholic Church organisation of Goa has opposed his nomination for Nuvem at the AICC level.
Speaking at a press briefing at Margao Aleixo said, “I would like to thank and congratulate the senior Congressmen who opposed my nomination and succeeded. I know there were differences and they had many personal scores to settle against me including the issues of power bills during my tenure as the Power Minister” said Aleixo. He further said “The so-called Roman Catholic Church Authorities had opposed the ticket being given to me. I have been informed by the AICC members that the church has opposed my nomination,” he said.
He added that “The Roman Catholic Church has been guiding us how to vote and I find it hard to believe as the guidelines have never told us which party to vote for.”
