MARGAO: The entire Varca-based Alemao clan descended at the South Goa Collectorate building on Friday as Churchill, Joaquim and Valanka walked in before the Returning Officers to file their nomination papers.
Coming under scanner for promoting dynasty politics, Churchill and Valanka maintained that dynasties were prevalent when the country was ruled by the Kings. “There’s no place for dynasties in a democratic set up”, Churchill argued.
Added daughter Valanka: “People vote for a candidate of their choice in a democracy. Moreover, I am not asking for votes as Churchill’s daughter, but as a youth and woman who has worked with the people since the last many years”. And, she continued: Why are you all only targeting the Alemaos? “Aren’t the MGP and other politicians having family members in politics?”
Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao was the first to file his nomination papers for the Cuncolim seat. He walked inside the building flanked by sons Yuri and Braz. Churchill’s younger brothers Ciabro and Kennedy were the prominent faces seen around the Collectorate building.
Hour-and-half later, Churchill came with daughter Valanka to file their papers. Churchill was accompanied by wife Fatima, son Savio, besides nephews Reagan and Warren.
