MARGAO: A Sao Jose de Areal resident Freddy Travasso not only stopped a truck transporting medical waste to the village but also tracked it to a shed in the Margao Industrial Estate.
He was shocked to find the truck contained medical waste. He, the sarpanch and some locals followed the truck to KGN Enterprises in Plot No. C4/1 of phase II.
Naresh Dessai, the IDC field manager informed that the firm was given permission only to collect plastic waste which was to be baled.
The unit owner refused to visit the site and the workers said the owner gets the waste and he only disposes it. It appears that the medical waste is mixed in between layers of plastic waste and baled instead of scientifically disposing off the same.
