VASCO: The Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) constables Sagar Chawhan and Vijay Naik both attached to traffic cell Vasco saved the life of a Verna resident who tried to commit suicide by jumping from Zuari Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the information, Santan Figredo (29) had attempted suicide from Zuari Bridge around 1.28 pm. He had parked his scooter on the bridge and was set for the plunge, but the alert police constables who were manning Cortalim bridge point rushed in and stopped him from jumping off the bridge.
His bid to flee from their clutches turned out to be futile. Chavan intimated highway patrolling team which rushed to the site and took him to the Verna police station.
“He was adamant and was not paying heed to us. He said he was tense with some property dispute and even if we leave him, he would again come back and attempt suicide. To save his life, we decided to report the matter to our superiors, who then summoned highway patrolling team and he was taken to the Verna police station” Chawan told Herald.
The Verna police intimated his family. They immediately rushed to the police station and after conducting formalities, the rescued person went home.
