PONDA: A twenty-three-year-old person from Calangute was apprehanded on Friday by alert Ponda locals for moving suspiciously with an eight-year-old girl at Ponda.
According to Ponda police, the locals saw the person moving suspiciously, holding the girl’s hand firmly at Panditwada.
When locals accosted him, he said the girl was his niece, however when they asked the girl, she said she did not know the person, following which the locals took the suspect to Ponda police station.
The accused gave his name as Rammaya Hanumant Lamani from Gulbarga, Karnaraka, who was staying in Panjim, while the minor girl is learnt to be from Calangute.
Ponda Police conducted the initial investigation with help of NGOs and will hand over the case to Calangute Police for further investigation.
The girl is learnt to be around eight years and studying in first standard and was forcibly brought by the accused to Panjim after school hours, who changed her school uniform.
